Update
Well, it certainly has been a while since we have enjoyed one another's company. Although, no one responds to any of my posts, so this conversation is rather one-sided. Be-that-as-it-may, I've had an interesting last couple of weeks here. First off, it's been raining for the past 7 days straight. It's rather annoying; although, I was in Madison for 3 of them, so I suppose I cannot complain too much. My teaching is going well. I'm enjoying the students' company. I have good interactions with them. I hear other teacher's students don't even know they're in the room really. So, I at least got that going for me.
Most recently, my class put on the play Fences by the recently deceased August Wilson. It was fun. I got to teach class all day on Tuesday about character analysis. Me and Liz (mentor) acted out a scene I wrote, and I then did a lesson about how to break it down. It was good. I definitely have a knack for theatre instruction. We'll see how this whole "English teacher" thing works out, though.
Today we had to get up early (today being Saturday, typically reserved for non-school functions) and go to a "retreat" which definitely deserves to be in quotation marks. We had to walk in the rain an extra 6-8 blocks to get to another Harvard building to have another class about . . . well, class, as in social class. It was fairly informative, but it still irks me that we couldn't do it during the week. A bit unnecessary in my opinion.
Well, last night was eventful, though. So, I went and watched the Fences performances early in the morning. Came back from class and had a big lunch. Good. Took Dave to work cuz it was raining around 4 o'clock. This also happens to be the time traffic really starts backing up. So, it took me 15 minutes to get home. Right when I got home I realized Dave had my keys. No one's fault, really, but I was just pissed I'd have to be in traffic again. So, I went back to Dave's work . . . in the rain . . . in traffic. I didn't have my phone (which was my fault) so I'd have to park real quick and run into the library to get my keys. I drive down Appian Way and there are no spots. So, I park in a "No Stopping" zone with my hazards on. I run into the library and the elevator is waiting there open. I jump in, go to the 3rd floor, run into the tech center, get my keys, run back into the elevator which is still waiting for me, run to my car, and want to run my fist into someone's face because there was a ticket on my car. A 30 dollar "No Stopping Zone" ticket when I was inside LITERALLY (and I'm an English teacher, I'm using it correctly here) 35 seconds at MOST. That means the "cop" must have seen me run out of my car and not said anything. I think that pisses me off the most. He could have said, "whoa you can't park there" and I would've explained my situation and either kept it there or moved it if he made me move. So, I confronted this "cop," (cop being in quotes because he looked like a kid the Harvard police hired to give tickets and still has no authority) and I explained my situation. He replied with, "sorry, man." To which I retorted, "You don't seem very sorry," and went back to my car. So that was that, but the tale does not end there.
I get home and am prepared to just immerse myself in papers and such. Right? Right. Riiiight? Wrong. I'm reading an assignment online aaaand the power goes out. So since it's getting dark rather early, I resorted to playing guitar in the dark because it's the only non-electronic activity I could do. Also, it was not as glamorous as it sounds because I only know, like, 8 songs, so it got real old real fast.
So I sit in the dark until I pick up Dave when he's done with his shift. Eventually I go to bed. Dave takes my car to pick up Stefanie (girlfriend) from the airport. I get a call telling me he heard a loud scraping sound, then the rear tires running something over. Well, the muffler fell off. Great. He then picked Stef up and was surprised that 90 West had closed in the time he had been circling the airport. Most likely the roads were flooding because it had been raining for 7 days straight. He eventually made it home not-dead but was frightened when having to drive through 12 inches of water for an extended period of time since roads in Boston were evidently planned by a blind goose who has little engineering experience.
Despite all this, though, I'm in a relatively good mood. Even after waking up ass-early in the morning after last night's fun-fest, I'm still okay. So, my blog remains a place of non-bitching; rather, it's more of a medium for my stories. So things are alright. Not too sure what I'm gonna do about the whole muffler situation since it's not exactly a necessary part of a car; it's really just to keep the noise down, not to keep it running in any way.
Can't really think of too much that's going on. I have been thinking about taking the Math MTEL one of these days which would certify me to teach math if I want. Why not, I suppose. I also will probably market myself as some sort of Speech teacher or something. I mean, I did forensics (sort of) in high school and I do have an Acting Specialist degree from Madison, so that'd be cool. We'll see what happens.
Oh, I'm taking two electives right now which are a breath of fresh air from the ed school classes I've been accustomed to the last few months. We read some really good stuff and have great discussions. They make me feel smart. That's all for now. Hope all is well. And as always I'd like to wish you peace, love, and soooooooooooooul.
